Usually around this time of year we are celebrating the end of vintage and looking forward to gathering together for the first general meeting of the year. With the Corona virus crisis the landscape has changed dramatically in the past month. In the past few weeks the committee has been working in the background with Wines of WA and Australian Grape & Wine (AGW) to firstly ensure that our operations are maintained as essential business. This has been important to not only allow us to complete vintage, but will also be needed as we venture into the winter months and other vineyard tasks.

Thank you to everyone for the effort you and your business are putting in by staying home, maintaining good hygiene, and social distancing. AGW have provided some great tools with their Checklist and Risk Management Template to help you keep the spread to a minimum, protect yourself and staff, and ensure that the wine industry can maintain our privileged Essential Service status.

The Association will continue to keep sharing information as it becomes available.  One of the best resources to check for the latest updates is the AGW Corona Virus page.

The committee has met recently and reviewed our finances and priorities for the next few months. Currently we have a bank balance of around $16,000. Some of these funds had been intended to use as matched dollars for the International Wine Tourism Grant. That is now on hold from our perspective. The committee has resolved to conduct a Social Media Campaign to support its members and their businesses. It will focus on Geographe branding over the next 3-6 months, to ensure that when life returns to “normal”, our brand has maintained a presence and that the region will hopefully be front of mind for people as a destination. We are in the process of obtaining quotes for this activity.
